THE SFU STRIKE PROTEST RALLY - This essay fell into my lap by accident. Stu Salmon was going to cover it as part of a more general essay on the clerical employees strike, and I tagged along. Stu decided it was too foggy to shoot and went home. I shamelessly decided to steal his idea, and raced back to the darkroom to get my equipment. It turned out to be a rather interesting subject, I thought. There was lots happening, with good facial expressions and body language on the part of the students and the organizers. The fog, if anything, added an aura of mystery and disbelief. There were more pictures in the essay, which were lost or damaged. I'm pretty sure that all of the ones you see here are 'keepers' though.

A couple of notes on the pictures: For those who don't remember, the speaker in the 1st photo is Pauline Jewett, at the time the President of Simon Fraser University. She was a federal MP both before and after her stint at SFU. The woman in the 4th photo is Sara Diamond, who was very active in the SORWUC union (Service, Office and Retail Workers Union of Canada), and SFU politics in general. I believe that she is still an author and journalist dealing with similar issues today.
